The best starting point is a concrete technical question.

Send the equipment type, process, supplier offer or component involved; what decision has to be made; and which data are already available. A drawing, RFQ, FAT protocol, process log, micrograph or test result is usually more useful than a long general description.

I am especially interested in questions where the difficulty is not finding another supplier brochure, but deciding what the available data actually mean.

Three useful ways to start

Review an equipment or supplier proposal

Send the RFQ/specification, supplier offer and the process the equipment is expected to run. I will focus first on missing technical evidence and acceptance risk.

Discuss a process or industrialization problem

Send the material, component, current route, proposed change and whatever test data already exist. The first task is usually to define what has to remain equivalent and what can change.

Request a technology or supplier landscape

Describe the technology, equipment class or application you need to map. I can use the working Sahalovy.ch Industrial and Patent Landscapes to move beyond the obvious suppliers and identify relevant technology branches.

For a project review

Useful inputs are the current specification, supplier quotation, drawings that can be shared, operating conditions, acceptance protocol and whatever data already exist from previous tests.

I normally begin by separating three things: what is already demonstrated, what is only assumed, and what should be measured next.

Something needs fixing?

If you represent a listed organization and something is wrong, outdated or should not be shown publicly, send me the company name and the entry you mean.

I will check it and update the public entry where appropriate.
